The doctor wipes a gel on the abdomen of a woman and uses an ultrasound machine to reveal the ultrasound image of the unborn child. This is possible because the device sends ultrasound (which we cannot hear) inside the abdomen. This is then reflected to the device and is interpreted in a machine, which is interpreted by the doctor.
